More than 40% of the people in Sudan are suffering from hunger. That's what the World Health Organization (WHO) said recently. Sudan is a country in Africa, and the situation there is getting worse. The conflict has been going on for four months now, and it's causing a lot of problems for the people.
Why is Hunger Increasing?
The number of people facing hunger has doubled since last year. This means that more and more people don't have enough food to eat. It's really sad because they don't have access to important things like medicine, medical supplies, electricity, and water. These things are really important for staying healthy, but many people in Sudan don't have them.
What's Causing the Conflict?
The conflict in Sudan started in April between the army and the Rapid Support Forces. It's a really dangerous situation, and many people have been hurt or killed. Over 3,000 civilians have died, and thousands more have been injured. It's really scary for the people who live there.
How Many People are Affected?
Since the conflict started, over four million people have had to leave their homes because it's not safe anymore. They have become refugees and had to find new places to live. It's really hard for them because they don't have a stable home anymore. The number of people facing hunger has gone up a lot too. Now, 42% of the population, which is about 20.3 million people, don't have enough food to eat.
What's Being Done to Help?
A lot of areas in Sudan are being affected by the conflict. The capital city, Khartoum, the western region of Darfur, and parts of Kordofan are some of the worst hit areas. The United Nations and other organizations are working together to help the people in Sudan. They are trying to provide food and other important things to the people who need it the most.
What Can We Do?
Even though we might be far away from Sudan, there are still things we can do to help. We can spread awareness about what's happening there and encourage others to donate to organizations that are helping the people in Sudan. Every little bit helps, and together we can make a difference.
The situation in Sudan is really tough right now. Many people are suffering from hunger, and they don't have access to important things like medicine and electricity. The conflict has caused a lot of problems, and millions of people have had to leave their homes. It's important for us to be aware of what's happening and do what we can to help.
