The Attack and the Commander
On October 7, the Israeli army had an attack carried out by a group called Hamas. They admitted that Colonel Assaf Hamami, who was in charge of the Southern Brigade of the Gaza Division, was killed in this attack. He was 41 years old and from Kiryat Ono.
The Army's Statement
The Israeli army released a statement on a platform called "X" to let everyone know about Colonel Hamami's death. They said that his body is being kept in the Gaza Strip. They also made sure to tell his family about what happened.
Other Soldiers Held by Hamas
Now, here's something interesting. Colonel Hamami is not the only soldier being held by Hamas. There are actually four soldiers in total. All of them were killed in the October 7 attacks.
Total Casualties
With the news of Colonel Hamami's death, the total number of people from the Israeli army who have died since the start of the conflict is now 396, according to the army's data.
Previous Soldiers Held by Hamas
Back on November 28, the Israeli army announced that three soldiers were being held by Hamas. Their names were Tomer Yaqoub Ahimas, Sergeant Kirill Brodsky, and Sergeant Shaked Dahan. They were all young, between 19 and 20 years old.
Temporary Truce and Renewed Aggression
There was a temporary truce between the Palestinian resistance groups and Israel. It lasted for 7 days and was made possible with the help of Qatar, Egypt, and the United States. During this time, prisoners were exchanged and humanitarian aid was brought into Gaza. Unfortunately, the truce ended and the Israeli aggression against Gaza started again.
