With rapid technological developments, robots and drones have become crucial tools in modern warfare. This report aims to review the impact of these technologies on warfare, including the humanitarian and legal dimensions, in addition to recent statistics; the impact of the use of drones makes them an effective tool from a military point of view, yet they cause many devastating losses, both in the large number of civilian casualties and the massive destruction of infrastructure, which makes them the subject of international controversy
Israeli Digital Tools
The use of robots equipped with sensors and automated systems by states raises significant concerns over the increasing levels of digital dehumanization in conflict, and the lack of regulation despite the growing use of these technologies. Uncertainties around the capabilities of robots used by militaries, the extent of their autonomous functions, and their potential weaponisation, further highlight why new international law on autonomy in weapons systems is urgently needed.
Lethal Autonomous Weapon
To avoid harming soldiers and dogs, the IDF has been experimenting with the use of robots and remote-controlled dogs in the Gaza War. Most of the tests have been with a ‘robot dog’ which is also equipped with a drone and can replace or reinforce the "Oketz Unit's dogs in certain situations Unmanned remote-control D9 bulldozers are also being used.
The protection of civilians, the reinforcement of multilateralism, and international humanitarian law are needed now more than ever. In an increasingly fractured world, states at the United Nations have an opportunity to play a positive role by taking tangible steps towards the creation of essential safeguards on autonomous weapons and emerging technologies.
Robots Determine Who is Killed
When fateful decisions regarding who lives and who dies remain in the hands of machines and not humans, once they receive orders from a human software to kill humans, sources such as Amnesty International and -Human Rights Watch have confirmed that more than 70% of the deaths are due to artificial intelligence, merely because of suspicion of the appearance of the person to be assassinated, which means that they are unable to identify the people to be assassinated, which means an increase in the number of victims, which indicates that these robots have made a grave mistake in killing civilians in the Gaza Strip.
No Ethics
The use of robots without human intervention by the Israeli army, but rather remotely by controlling the panel and the robot that determines the victims, and the places to kill and destroy, this expresses the absence of ethics and law in light of the imbalance of power, in front of defenseless civilians, this is a crime that has transcended values and humanity when an inanimate machine decides who lives and who dies; this means that more than 2 million Palestinians in Gaza are controllers by machines only.
All kinds of Risk
Using three different methods—aerial bombardment, booby-trapped robots, and planting explosives in homes before blowing them up—the Israeli army has increased its operations to destroy homes and residential buildings in the areas of its incursion in northern Gaza
Estimates suggest that over 200,000 people live in the debris of destroyed homes and shelter centers in the North Gaza Governorate. These people refuse to comply with Israel’s systematic forcible displacement orders, given that within a week, Israeli forces issued no less than six evacuation orders to the southern Gaza Strip
Roughly 200,000 or more people in the Gaza Governorate are starving and experiencing ongoing bombing as a result of the blockade of supplies and goods. In other words, over 400,000 people living In the northern Gaza Valley are at risk of forced starvation, displacement, and killings by other means
In addition to destroying and burning bakeries and destroying what remained of the water wells, Israeli forces continue to barricade northern Gaza from receiving humanitarian supplies, leaving those who survive the killings and direct bombardment at risk of starvation. The majority of residents are trapped without access to food or other necessities of life as they are unable to leave their homes or shelter centers in search of food, especially since many of them have been forcibly evacuated multiple times, leaving behind their personal possessions and food supplies
More Experience with Killing Robots.
Ordinary people have started to distinguish between the sound of a missile explosion and the sound of a robot explosion because the sound of a robot is louder, more violent, and more destructive. It causes massive destruction that covers an entire area in fog and is capable of destroying a large area, including seven houses at once.
The missile explosion Is less destructive than the robot explosion because the robot's sound is louder, and it is more destructive and violent; it is capable of covering an entire area with massive destruction because the robot is equipped with explosives that can weigh between "2 kg up to 100 kg".
Robots also cause massive destruction to infrastructure, including water, electricity, and sanitation services, to force residents to flee.
The health damage caused by robots is truly devastating, to the point that doctors who came from various European countries found it difficult to treat the wounded that came to the hospital as a result of explosive robots.
It seems that the Israeli army has resorted to robots to protect soldiers and reduce losses in the number of deaths and injuries, under the pretext of the lack of combat savings, which is a method far from humanity. When a machine kills humans instead of soldiers, this means that it is contrary to international law regarding the level of combat. Between the two parties, the use of robots is not internationally recognized, especially when used against unarmed civilians, so international law must be taken against these non-human robots.
