An Israeli bombing targeted Mahdi Maternity Hospital, which is a place where doctors take care of pregnant women and newborn babies. Unfortunately, this bombing caused the death of two doctors and injured many people who had to leave their homes because of the fighting.
The Situation at the Hospital
A reporter from Al Jazeera, a news organization, told us that the people who had to leave their homes and were staying at the hospital are asking for help. They want the International Committee of the Red Cross to come and take them to safety. They also want the wounded people to receive the medical care they need.
More Attacks on Hospitals
It's really sad to hear that this is not the first-time hospitals have been targeted in Gaza. The Israeli forces have been attacking hospitals and the areas around them, especially in the northern and western parts of Gaza City. They are trying to enter those areas, which is causing a lot of problems for the people who live there.
What the Doctors and Witnesses Say
The director of the Shifa Medical Complex, said that Israeli drones, which are like small planes without pilots, fired at their hospital during the night. A journalist who was inside the hospital also said that they could hear fighting and gunshots getting closer. The drones attacked the hospital multiple times.
Hospitals Out of Service
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health in Gaza said that because of the Israeli army's actions, the Shifa Medical Complex is not able to work properly. They are surrounded by drones, and it's really dangerous for the doctors and patients. By the end of the day, all the hospitals in the northern part of Gaza were not able to help people, except for one called the Baptist Hospital, but even their services were limited.
Why the Israeli Occupation Claims
The Israeli occupation forces say that there are command centers for the people who are fighting against them inside tunnels under the Shifa Complex. But the Palestinian groups, who are fighting for their rights, told the United Nations that there are no military activities happening in the hospital. They want the UN to send a team to check and make sure the hospital is safe for everyone.
